Open to all Cortland County and surrounding area students that it can appropriately serve, St. Mary's School is dedicated to providing a Catholic PK-6 education and a solid academic foundation while fostering spiritual growth. The faculty and staff are committed to teaching in a constantly evolving environment and to meeting the demands of the ever-changing world around us.
There is a fun event coming up at St Mary’s School in Cortland, NY. It is the celebration of the 30th year of donations by the Charlie Bertini Music Scholarship at St. Mary’s School.
Charlie's parents, Cortland residents Bert and Ann Bertini created the scholarship in 1988 to support instrumental music students at our school and to honor his career which has been dedicated to music.
The primary goal was to encourage musical interests of the students. Each year, Charlie plays to an assembly of all the school’s students (pre-K through 6), and uses the time to explain basics about music. The fund has supported over 100 students with instrument rentals and private lessons, and the fund has even purchased a sound system for the school.
This year, on Friday June 8th, Charlie will again meet with the students in an assembly and give out awards to this year’s winners.
That evening, June 8th at 6pm, accompanied by Dave Hanlon, Ronnie France and Rick Montalbano, Charlie will play a free concert in the school gym to which the public is invited. We have invited past scholarship recipients who still play, to sit in for a number or two. There will be a lot of energy in the gym!
There is no cost to attend, but a hat will be passed for donations. All donations are tax deductible and 100% of the donations will go to the music scholarship fund.
